That is the National Gas Emergency Service, free and open day and night. Turn off the gas at the meter if you can, open doors and windows, keep away from light switches and flames, and get everyone outside. Once the supply is made safe, our engineers can repair the appliance.

Some stoppages are not faults at all. These take a few minutes and need no tools, and anything past them is a job for a gas engineer.
Never take the casing off a gas boiler. Only a Gas Safe registered engineer should work inside a gas appliance.
If you let a home with gas appliances, the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 set out three duties. Our engineers carry out the check and write up the record in the same visit.

Three different visits, and the engineer will tell you which one your boiler needs.
The engineer checks the boiler burns gas safely, tests the flue and the safety devices, cleans what needs cleaning and records the visit. Most manufacturers ask for a yearly service to keep the warranty valid.
Most breakdowns come down to one part: a pump, a fan, a diverter valve, a sensor or the circuit board. The engineer finds which one before anything is ordered.
Repeated breakdowns, parts that are no longer made, or a repair quote close to the price of a new boiler. You get both prices, and the choice stays yours.

Four small habits that keep a heating system healthy and can save a call-out.
Trapped air stops hot water reaching the top of the radiator. With the heating off, open the bleed valve with a radiator key until water appears, then check the boiler pressure.
Turning it on for 15 minutes once a month keeps the pump and valves from seizing after months standing still.
Press the test button once a month, and replace the alarm by the end-of-life date printed on it.
Do not box in the boiler, cover its vents or let plants grow over the flue outside. It needs air to burn gas safely.
