I recently had a blocked toilet and called this company late on Saturday night. Despite the late hour, they were incredibly responsive and arrived promptly at 8am on Monday morning as promised.

CCTV report, main drain fault

I would without hesitation recommend FS drainage. Integrity and honesty are always a great trait for any company. This morning FS Drainage sent a drainage agent Mitch, who had both in spades. We had called them for a cctv report, Mitch took one look at it and said this is a main drain problem and if we can find the main drain ( which was no mean feat in our street ) he could maybe fix the problem. We went out to explore, this young man’s determination to help me was a real credit, not just to him but the company in general.
For the price of our initial report our problem was fixed, I would like to add at this point two other companies who had been called for this problem did not rectify.

How we clear, survey and repair drains

The method depends on what the blockage is and where it sits. These are the four the engineers reach for.

Rodding

For soft blockages close to an access point, such as an outside gully or the first run from a toilet.

Machine and jetting

For hard blockages, fat, scale and roots further down the line, where a rod cannot reach or cannot cut through.

Camera and tracing

A camera finds the fault and records it, and tracing plots where the drain runs, which properties it serves and where it meets the sewer.

Repair or reline

Broken pipes are dug out and replaced where they have to be, and lined from the inside where they can be.

While you wait for the engineer

A few minutes now can stop the water rising further and save time once the engineer is on site.

Stop running water

Hold off on flushing, showers and the washing machine. Every litre has to go somewhere, and it backs up at the lowest point in the house.

Skip the chemical cleaners

Caustic drain products rarely shift a hard blockage, and they leave the standing water unsafe to work in.

Find the inspection chamber

If you know where your manhole cover is, tell the help desk when you call. Leave heavy covers in place for the engineer to lift.

Ask next door

If the neighbours are backing up too, the blockage may be in a shared drain or the public sewer, which can make it the water company's job.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

No. You pay for the time your engineer spends on the job, charged by the half hour, and the help desk tells you the rate when you book. Larger jobs are priced as a project.

Why does my drain keep blocking?

A repeat blockage usually has a cause the first clear did not reach: fat lining the pipe, a root through a joint, or a dip where debris settles. A CCTV survey finds it, and jetting or a repair stops it coming back.

How long does it take to clear a blocked drain?

Many blockages are cleared in under an hour once the engineer is on site. Roots, hard scale or a collapsed section take longer, and the engineer tells you how long before carrying on.

Do I need a CCTV survey for a build-over agreement?

If you plan to build over or near a public sewer, the water company can ask for a survey of the pipe before work starts, and sometimes after. We carry out these surveys and give you the recording to send with your application.

Who pays for a blocked drain in a rented property?

It depends on the tenancy and on what caused it. Landlords are usually responsible for the drains, while a blockage caused by misuse, such as wipes or fat, can fall to the tenant. A camera survey shows what was in the pipe.

Can you clear drains at a restaurant or office outside trading hours?

Yes. We work evenings, nights and weekends, so a kitchen, shop or office can be cleared while it is closed, at the evening or weekend rate. Priority Account holders also get faster response and contract pricing.

What if the blockage comes back?

Our work carries a six-month workmanship guarantee, so if the same blockage returns in that time, we come back to it. If a camera shows the cause is structural, such as a root or a broken pipe, that repair is quoted separately.

How can I stop my drains blocking?

Keep fat, wet wipes and cotton buds out of sinks and toilets, scrape plates into the bin, and fit a guard over outside gullies so leaves stay out. Commercial kitchens should have grease traps emptied on a schedule.
